The Smokebrush Gallery and
Foundation for the Arts presents the 4th Annual ROLL Bike
Exhibition, a juried exhibition
of artwork in all mediums and concerning any themes around bikes and bike
life. This year's exhibition is
specially titled Quadrophenia: Fear of 4 Wheels. The Opening Reception is scheduled for Fri.
Aug. 1, 5pm-8pm as part of the First Friday Artwalk events. The
exhibition runs through August 27.
This exhibit
explores themes surrounding the visual appeal of the bicycle, its mechanical
simplicity, the rotation of the wheel, the bicycle's role in social intimacy,
the evolution of bicycle form, personal expressions of the ride, fitness and
health, decorative value, the role of the bicycle in building community and
more. Bicycle collectibles including historic or custom bikes will also
be included.
The term Quadrophenia is taken from the Who's
album of the same name and means to imply the idea of clean living in an industrialized
world.
