Nomen Oblitum features a wealth of painted and collaged works on canvas and found surfaces. The phrase "nomen oblitum" translates from Latin as "name forgotten." It is used in scientific classification to designate outdated nomenclature. Not only is it fun to say, but taken literally, this phrase could loosely describe the way Oaks creates her work. She "declassifies" snippets of imagery and text from contemporary culture by taking them out of their original context - essentially renaming (or un-naming) them. The phrase also hints at the trance-like absorption artists experience when they make stuff... or the captivation viewers feel when looking at art. However you interpret its title, this show offers eye-and-mind candy galore! Let the quirky, glittery, pop-ish poetics of Nomen Oblitum work their magic on you... you may just forget your own name! Preview images of the show will be available Friday evening at this address. http://www.nowherelimited.com/angela_oaks Angela Oaks has been working as a visual artist for more than a decade and is an avid collector of contemporary art herself. Her diverse educational background includes training as a Target Intelligence Specialist for the USAF and participation in the graduate program at the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics (The Naropa Institute) in Boulder, Colorado. NOWhere Limited is a contemporary art gallery and limited edition shop located in beautiful Nederland, Colorado, just west of Boulder, and online at http://www.nowherelimited.com
