Mikel Glass: The DiscardedTaos Society of ArtistsColorado Springs AbstractColorado Springs Fine Arts CenterOpening Reception for all 3 exhibits: Friday February 27 from 5:00 to 8:00 pmThe Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center continues to move the axis of artistic excellence southward with a trio of exhibits opening this Friday. "Colorado Springs Abstract" picks up on the Colorado Abstract theme explored here in Denver as part of Michael Paglia and Mary Chandler's recently published book, just as most of the Denver exhibits are preparing to end their run. "Taos Society of Artists" brings together some of the heavyweights of the early 20th century Taos scene including 2 of my favorite Southwestern artists E. Martin Hennings and Walter Ufer. And in addition to the historical shows, the FAC is also tackling a contemporary exhibit with the painting and sculpture of NY artist Mikel Glass, a realist painter who tackles the mundane on canvas and through recreations of refuse and found objects. Without doubt worth the trek down, 3 shows not to be missed. - KLH Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center 30 West Dale Street Colorado Springs, CO 80903 719.634.5583 http://www.csfineartscenter.org
