Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibition
September 14 - October 19, 2007
Colorado State University, Fort Collins (Multiple Locations)
CSU again plays host to the 15th Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhbition (CIIPE), a biennial show featuring graphic design from 89 artists representing 31 countries. Mary Voelz Chandler's RMN review notes the exhibition's "mix of commentary on topics such as the 20th anniversary of the nuclear
incident at Chernobyl, the U.S. war in Iraq, religious oppression,
international trafficking in women and the continuing scourge of AIDS,
a subject that has ranked high for years in the event that began in
1979."
The exhibition posters are on display at the Clara Hatton Gallery in the Visual Arts Building and the Curfman Gallery at Lory Student Center on the CSU main campus, however you can also get a peek at works typical of the show via the CSU Library's International Poster Collection, an excellent online resource highlighting the history of the exhibit (http://lib.colostate.edu/posters.)
Regardless of making the Fort Collins trek, be sure to check out a companion online exhibit, Graphic Responses which "showcases visual responses to world events by Colorado State design students and designers from around the world who were invited to share their digital poster designs." The online portion of the CIIPI was started in 2003 "to give artists a way to respond immediately to issues of social concern, the electronic exhibition traditionally reflects a variety of cultural insights, social concerns, political views and graphic commentary."
