The series of paintings exhibited in This Land Is My Land is part of a much larger project that Sue McNally is working on to paint a landscape in all fifty states. The selection shown here represents the west through her eyes and vantage point and how the magnificent landscapes and varied terrain in states such as New Mexico, Colorado and Washington, for example, shape us as residents and tourists. Since 2010, with her first painting of Devil's Tower in Wyoming, McNally has crossed the country to try and see America as a whole through her relationship with its different landscapes, some iconic and some personal. This Land Is My Land represents one artist reckoning with our culture and what it means to be an American, starting with our land and the views that we mythologize and hold sacred.

Chuck Kimmerle’s landscape photography centers primarily around the intersections of where man and nature meet. These areas, which now seem to be the norm of our landscape, offer an insight and significance which cannot be found in nature alone, according to the artist. Kimmerle works exclusively in black and white with its inherently graphic format, which allows him the maximum opportunities for creative exploration.
