Renzo Piano's design for the downtown Whitney

Downtown Manhattan's west side is in for a face-lift with a new branch of the Whitney Museum slated to begin construction come Spring 2009, with an anticipated opening in late 2012. The new facility—to be designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano
will be adjacent to the soon to be refurbished High Line railway, and will no doubt put the old meat packing district on the map for the NYC art traveler crowd. - KLH
