Jennifer Steinkamp's 2006 video installation "Rock Formation" at the Denver Art Museum is an example of the creative curatorial decisions that were made to accommodate the baroque nature of Daniel Libeskind's off-balance design: flag-like shapes undulate in the video wind down sloped walls in space very unfriendly to conventional media. Here's some info highligting a Jennifer Steinkamp touring show organized by the San Jose Museum of Art making its way to the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo NY. The exhibit is on display from March 14 - June 29, 2008. - KLH From the Albright-Knox website: Jennifer Steinkamp, a nationally touring retrospective exhibition organized and circulated by the San Jose Museum of Art, offers a comprehensive view of one of the most important and prolific female video and new media artists of our time. Steinkamp creates stunning 3-D installations that explore architectural space, motion, and the phenomenon of human perception. Fusing abstract painting, computer animation, sound, and film, her unique approach and distinct imagery create an awe-inspiring experience that balances between the virtual and the real. ![]() Jennifer Steinkamp "Wreck of the Dumaru" 2004 - Photograph by Marcus Leith |
