The new Museum of Contemporary Art Denver is in a subtle battle with the Grand Rapids Art Museum as to who's more green, with the recently opened GRAM on a press blitz touting it's status as the "first newly constructed LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified art museum in the world." The MCA's new building scheduled to open later this month is also LEED certified, and hosts a variety of novel features designed to keep the musuem's energy consumption to a minimum (such as a rooftop garden and "no front door" air conditioning). Further, the MCA has instituted a range of operational practices that will further reduce the ongoing carbon footprint, including the use of recycled paper and a discount for patrons who arrive via mass-transit.
