Theresa Anderson:

This grouping of sculpture in the exhibition, Some Kind Of Cuddle/ Site Conditioner, continues my work of making present, making softer, and cuddling of site and self. These objects were developed through a multitude of performance artworks that include, action cuddle, all flesh is grass, and light as a feather stiff as a board/ diamagnetic gravity vortex as well as the installation, making softer, at Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art. While this work stems from items to be used in performance art each sculpture was developed over years of a rigorous painting practice. Object for safety/ object for target practice, 7 is constructed from a found object that is defined by the cast and pigmented rubber that swings delicately from the paint edge. Black hole/ tractor beam/ some kind of cuddle is a large rectangular form hung on a wooden structure. Black hole is made from approximately 150 women’s stockings painstakingly painted with pillow soft foam. My interest in stockings resides both in its versatility as a sculptural material as well as conceptually tickling a point of interest. Stockings dually serve as sexual fetish objects as well as being used for warmth, softness, and comfort to the wearer.
