The First Friday madness on Santa Fe was in "Super" effect this October with all the stops pulled out as part of Denver Arts Week... more fire, more music, more galleries and lots more people.
I stopped by the studio of artist Rodney Wallace, one of the key planners behind the Art Infestation events organized around town as part of the arts week extravaganza, and met the folks behind the Magnet Mafia (pictured above) who are known for live painting events on magnetic metal sheets throughout metro Denver. The pieces stick around on various dumpsters and landmarks until they are snapped up by collectors, or trashed by uninspired municipal workers making the rounds. Be sure to check out their website at http://www.magnetmafia.com for info on their latest happening. I also met artist Sandy Jackson who with her husband Jeff has designed and installed several notable public artworks in Denver including "Aqua Rhythms" on the JW Marriott building in Cherry Creek North and a large installation at the Coors brewery based on 60 cases each of Coors and Molsons.
