There's nothing worse than getting dissed by a big name artist that you idolize: when Metapong (Mexico-based artists Isaac Muñoz and Leonardo Marz) asked renown fellow Mexican artist Gustavo Artigas if they could use some of the photographic documentation from one of his performance pieces, he gave the artists a big no in the form of high fees to license the pix. Not to be deterred, Metapong created a new piece, dressing themselves up as Artigas and riffing on his original theme of soccer, football and basketball with a new garbage-ball composed of the detritus from the earlier pieces they had created for the Museo during their 3 month residency.

I've been fortunate to catch several of Metapong's innovative performances and installations as part of the current Space Invaders exhibit as well as the Museo's monthly Spanish Happy Hours (third Friday of every month) where they have been unveiling various works since the show opened back in February. Be sure to stop by for their final  presentation next third Friday May, prior to the show's close June 8th. - KLH
