"Do you know what a Mantra is?" asked artist Sherri Lynn Wood as I stood in line waiting to enter her traveling "Mantra Trailer" on display at the Art Student League Denver last week. "It's like a prayer" she offered before I even had a chance to launch into a rousing rendition of "Ommm Mani Padmi Hummmm," but given her cross country tour with the trailer, and the wide spectrum of participants taking part in the interactive exhibit, I'm certain her instinct to explain is on point. I needed little in the way of support to launch into steady chant once seated inside the privacy of the mantra trailer, with an interior sporting a setup more reminiscent of a recording studio than the tiny home on wheels it is to Sherri as she bounds about the US recording the secret chants of her everyday participants. check out http://www.mantratrailer.com for a sampling of the audio she has collected so far. - KLH Click here for some more pix of the trailer... photos by Ken Hamel/DenverArts.org |
