Phil Bender - photos by Ken Hamel/DenverArts.org
Denver's own version of Marcel Duchamp Phil Bender was literally on display amongst a cavalcade of artist friends, well (and not so well) wishers, and ex-wives as the Lab at Belmar celebrated Phil's 25 plus year contribution to the arts in Denver with an old-school roast, the "Bender Bender." Among the highlights:
- Tales of Phil's first "unwedding" at Pirate Gallery to his ex-wife Francine, complete with re-used invitations and a Twinkie wedding cake
- The Denver "Dada Club," part of a class Phil taught at Colorado Free U
- Dana Cain saluting Phil as "Denver's Andy Warhol, without the hair or the genius"
- Phil's perennially sandaled feet
- Phil declaring "I'll kill you and your entire family" to a wide swath of participants
