Academic Year Apprenticeship and Summer Intensive Application

PlatteForum + Labyrinth Arts Academy take the concepts of theater arts, arts infusion, and youth development to new dimensions by creating an atmosphere that fosters creativity, diversity, competence, asset development, mentoring, trust, and teamwork.
ArtLab is a collaborative program between PlatteForum and Labyrinth Arts Academy. It is a two part program at PlatteForum youth age 14 -20 geared towards high school youth with a Spring Apprenticeship and Summer Intensive. (March 11 – May 20, 2008).
ArtLab apprentices work with professional visiting artists of all genres 2 days a week and work on a youth driving theatrical production about youth homelessness. Apprentices learn improvisation techniques, acting for the camera, create an auto drama (a dramatization of one's personal history) and explore a variety of art forms. ArtLab apprentices who successfully complete the Spring program will apply for paid summer ArtLab Intensive positions. Summer ArtLab takes place from June 10 – August 8, 2008 (tentative location is Redline Studios at 23rd and Arapahoe).
ArtLab students work 15-20 hours per week for 8-10 weeks, with professional artists, collaborating in the creation of an original digital/film production that will be written, produced and performed by ArtLab participants exploring democracy and issues important to young people.
A stipend of $150 will be paid to apprentices who successfully complete each academic semester (Spring/Fall). Those who have completed an academic semester program can apply for the Summer Intensive, where they are paid $6.85 an hour.
Applicants must be enrolled in high school and must commit to working all scheduled hours of the program. Students must be in good standing (academic and social/behavioral) with their academic institution.
