The Norwegian artist, Edvard Munch, once expressed "I don't paint what I see, I paint what I remember."
I've been working on a series of paintings, since the fall of 2014, that depict storms in one manner or another. Growing up in southern Colorado you could smell the powerful storms rolling in from the surrounding prairies. They were always exciting and never threatening. My sister and I would anxiously watch them from the living room window with awe in our hearts. We would then run out and play in the rushing water amidst the leaves and fallen branches.
Whenever I knew a storm was on its way, I always felt like something important was happening and that a new day was being ushered in. I never feared those summer storms, I embraced them.
My mom used to look up to those early summer evening skies and say to me, "I wish I could paint clouds like that".
