(from the artists statement:)

Timmy Flynn's Hardware Store is a group exhibition curated by Tim Flynn as a tribute to hardware stores and the world of tools. Hardware stores have been an inspiring place and a resource for ideas and materials for artists for many years. While hardware stores will always carry tools and hardware, the atmosphere of the hardware store has changed with the passage of time and the growth of corporate America. The small, family hardware stores are rapidly disappearing across the country and being replaced by large chain stores. gone are the days of the friendly personal service and interaction so common with the neighborhood hardware stores of old.

The inspiration for this show came to Flynn when he found a childhood photo of himself standing in front of a poster with the "Timmy Flynn's Hardware Store" scrawled in child-like handwriting. He remembered going to hardware stores with his father and the awe he felt by the multitude of tools and objects by which he was surrounded. He also remembered his childhood dream of owning a hardware store. Almost 40 years later, Flynn has taken this boyhood fantasy and turned it into an art exhibit.

The front portion of Edge Gallery will be designed to have the feel of an actual hardware store, including a check-out counter, cash register and aisles. Flynn has invited 17 artists to participate with the caveat of using "tools" and/or "hardware" as either an inspiration or actual part of their work. The artwork included spans a variety of media, styles and approaches to the theme.
