Tansey Contemporary is proud to announce, “Recall - Recapture - Remember”, an invitational and juried exhibition organized in collaboration with the Española Valley Fiber Arts Center (EVFAC), showcasing excellence in contemporary fiber art from artists in the Southwest Region of the United States.
The exhibition includes new works from 22 artists and will be on display at Tansey Contemporary in Santa Fe, NM May 18th through June 17th. The exhibition will then travel to Denver, where it will be on display at Tansey Contemporary Denver July 7th through August 5th.
The opening reception in Santa Fe will be held on Friday, May 18th at 652 Canyon Road from 5:30 to 8pm, in conjunction with the kick-off party for the EVFAC annual Fiber Crawl, organized in partnership with local artists, businesses, and cultural centers for the public to learn and experience the fiber arts for free while traveling across northern New Mexico, May 18-20th.
The opening reception in Denver will be held on Saturday, July 7th from 2-4pm at 1743 Wazee Street, and attending artists will each give a short talk about their work.
The exhibition as a whole addresses the theme of memory and the works in the show approach the theme from a broad range of perspectives. In “Journey Home”, Jacqueline Mallegni attempts to transform recaptured negative emotions and memories into beauty. Her work often references the philosophies of wabi-sabi surrounding acceptance of transience and imperfection. Jason Ripper’s work, “Blood and Bone”, utilizes everyday clothing worn by himself and his parents, directly serving as a personal remembrance of his mother after her passing, but also as a platform to connect with others through the shared experience of loss.
