Juried Student/Alumni Exhibition

Opening reception: Thursday, January 10, 5-8 pm

The Myhren Gallery at DU consistently has intersting work on display, and the current Student and Alumni exhibit is a great showcase for the offbeat sculpture of artist Viviane Le Courtois. Her "Single Sock Fossils" features a sprawling platform of gym socks deceptively oozing fired porcelain, with the deception coming from the whiteness of the glaze which hints at socks that are in actuality burnt off during the firing process. What is left are the fossil-esque remnants of the footwear.
Also on display are the glass and iron sculptures of alumnus Milton Tomlinson who attended the school when it was under the helm of Mel Strawn, who helped Tomlinson get a rare assistantship under ceramics prof Mynard Tischler. Tomlinson uses a variety of traditional techniques to form his glass including plaster and sand casting, with the baroque orbs set within the framework of forged metal creations.
