 Jonathan Kaplan at Plinth (from the press release) PLINTH GALLERY Opens “Four Decades in Clay - A 40 year retrospective of ceramic work by artist Jonathan Kaplan ” The exhibition follows the career of the artist beginning with early ceramic pieces completed as an undergraduate at Rhode Island School of Design, selected works from the first studio in Bowmansville, Pennsylvania, and pieces he designed and produced as owner of Ceramic Design Group in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The exhibition will showcase Kaplan’s new work produced as a studio artist at Plinth Gallery in Denver. Jonathan’s career in the ceramic arts has been multifaceted and diverse. He received his Masters in Fine Arts from Southern Illinois University in 1975. He has owned a pottery studio, a ceramics manufacturing company, written for numerous publications, and developed the ceramics program at Colorado Mountain College/Alpine Campus. After relocating to Denver in 2006, Jonathan opened Plinth Gallery, which was awarded the Mayors Design Award in its first year. The Gallery has continued to showcase collectible works of other ceramic artists including Tom Turner, Dan Anderson, and most recently, Kevin Snipes. Four Decades in Clay will run concurrently at Plinth Gallery with “2009-Gallery Year in Review.” The First Friday opening with the artist will take place on Friday December 4, 2009, 6-9pm at 3520 Brighton Blvd in Denver. We will be partnering with the Chocolate Crisis Center of Denver for this opening event. The Gallery is also a collection point for donations for The Food Bank of the Rockies, and canned or dry food items will be accepted.
