Short poems or songs known as Nursery Rhymes and the longer form folk stories known as Fairy Tales both come from centuries old oral and literary traditions aimed at capturing the imagination of children. Sometimes joyful and silly, sometimes dark they both conjure unique imagery and ideas in the minds of children and adults alike. In the juried exhibition Hey Diddle Diddle, artists nationwide were invited by Niza Knoll Gallery, to submit work that depicts their interpretation of a chosen rhyme or tale. In 2015 the gallery hosted the first, regional Hey Diddle Diddle Juried show that attracted a fun array of magnificent artworks which inspired the current call to be open to artists across the U.S.

Niza Knoll was born in Haifa, and as a child lived in Vienna, Paris, and Montreal, before settling in a diverse immigrant neighborhood in New York. Throughout her life she has had to learn to express herself in many languages and adapt to a mix of cultures. She believes this need to discover and create various ways to communicate pushed her to become a multi-disciplinary artist. Niza seeks out and studies different media—acrylic and oil, photography, graphic design, stone and clay—constantly in search of the form, or combination of forms, that will best allow her to express herself. She received her formal training in painting and graphic design at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Before becoming a full-time visual artist she had two rewarding careers as a graphic designer and a teacher of painting and photography. She opened her namesake gallery in 2009.

Amy Norton’s eye for visual art comes from her love of photography and her many years surrounded by the works of talented artists of many disciplines. She has marketed and promoted artists and galleries since 2004 and in 2016 served as curator for an art exhibit and silent auction fundraiser for the Anti-Defamation League. She graduated from the Art Institute of Colorado in 2000 with an Associate’s Degree in commercial photography.

Niza Knoll Gallery gallery specializes in intriguing conceptual exhibits, hosts first and third Friday events, monthly salons, private concerts and guest speakers. Past exhibits have included unusual artist pairings, outsider art, collaborative work, thought provoking thematic exhibits of artists using non-traditional media. Through a partnership with Kingman Winery the space serves a tasting room for their fine Colorado wines and is proud to offer their wine for sale during art walks and other special events.
