Multi-disciplinary artist Niza Knoll enters 2018 with an exhibit of her own work in her namesake gallery at 915 Santa Fe Drive from January 13-March 2. She is expanding on her series of pieces inspired by Botticelli’s famous “Birth of Venus” painting in addition to showing sculptures, photography and new abstract paintings. The public is invited to an Artist Reception on Friday, January 19 from 5-8 during the Art District on Santa Fe’s Third Friday Art Walk, and to view and purchase work during regular business hours, Wednesday-Friday 1-5 pm, Saturday 1-4 pm and during First and Third Friday Art Walks in March from 4-8 pm.

Niza Knoll was born in Haifa, Israel and as a child lived in Vienna, Paris, and Montreal, before settling in a diverse immigrant neighborhood in New York. “Throughout my life I have had to learn to express myself in many languages and adapt to a mix of cultures.” Says Knoll, “I believe this need to discover and create various ways to communicate pushed me to become a multi-disciplinary artist.” She seeks out and studies different media—acrylic and oil, photography, graphic design, stone, clay and motion art—constantly in search of the form, or combination of forms, that will best allow her to express herself. She is currently exploring abstract painting and finds it challenging is that is “…difficult not to tell a story or depict an image. It is an ongoing process which I will continue to explore.”

Knoll received her formal training in painting and graphic design at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Before becoming a full-time visual artist and gallery owner she had two rewarding careers as a graphic designer and a teacher of painting and photography.

In 2009 Knoll opened her gallery in the Art District on Santa Fe and is entering its ninth year in its location at 915 Santa Fe drive. The gallery specializes in intriguing conceptual exhibits, hosts first and third Friday events, monthly salons, private concerts and guest speakers. Past exhibits have included unusual artist pairings, outsider art, collaborative work, thought provoking thematic exhibits of artists using non-traditional media. Through a partnership with Kingman Winery the space serves a tasting room for their fine Colorado wines and is proud to offer their wine for sale during art walks and other special events.
