Keith Oelschlager: "I remember being very young and having deep conversations with my Grandpa. He once told me that as he looked around, he hardly recognized the world anymore. He said that everything he knew and loved from his childhood had disappeared. People, places, things. All gone. I didn’t understand him at the time, but now I’m starting to sense the same thing happening, and I understand that the feeling is universal. People everywhere and throughout time experience this same sense of losing “their world”, the loss of their own unique version of it. With this show I wanted to search out some special bits of the world and preserve and celebrate them. I wanted to stop and take a moment to really see some unique and beautiful spots in time and place. These paintings are souvenirs of experience."
Josh Davy: "I wander down crowded city streets on my way to find something, working my way past the crush of strangers and away from the glass and steel of new faux exteriors. I’m looking for the industrial places, where generations of people went to work with their hands to provide services to others and a living for themselves. These places have a beauty that comes in a form inherent to their function, and when that function ceases to be relevant they are abandoned to decay. Some of these buildings will be torn down, some will remain standing in quiet austerity long after I’m gone. Either way I’m here right now, trying to capture something of their strength and grace while I can."
