Space Gallery is pleased to present a group exhibition with new work by Anna Elise Johnson, Virginia Maitland, Lewis McInnis, Sangeeta Reddy and Stephen Shachtman. Each artist in this exhibition pays homage to the Color Field movement which developed in the late 1940’s. Pioneered by artists such as Barnett Newman, Clyfford Still and Mark Rothko, Color Field painting sprung from a desire to create a modern and even mythic new style of painting independent of line and figuration. Influenced by their predecessors, the artists in this exhibition exploit the expressive powers of color and shape to create their own interpretations of the landscape.
