Robischon Gallery is pleased to present three concurrent solo exhibitions by American painters Deborah Dancy (CT), Gary Komarin (NY) and Tom Lieber (CA). The featured artists expound on a diverse array of abstract vocabularies; from the raw, challenging language of provisional painting to the improvisational line linked to Late Modernism, as well as the formal sensibilities of gestural abstraction. Through their distinctive approach and wide-ranging mark, each of the seasoned artists exalt in the physicality of paint as they independently mine the vast terrain of abstraction: Dancy’s gritty structures merge with unexpected forms, Komarin’s colorful animated lines comingle with the organic and Lieber’s high-velocity brushwork and elegant palette acknowledge the contemplative. Through varied line and surface, Dancy, Komarin and Lieber embrace the unassuming beauty and awkwardness of paradoxm while recognizing the gravitas of complexity and the exuberance of the unencumbered mark.
