Tsogo Mijid and Leah Swenson

Pirate: Contemporary Art

December 7 - December 23, 2018

  • Opening Reception: Friday December 7 from 6-10pm
An exhibition of new work by Leah Swenson including collages, painting, photographs, and encaustic works

Leah Swenson lives and works in Denver and is a RMCAD alumnus, and an associate member at Pirate and NEXT galleries in the 40West Art District. Abouth her exhibit: In cartography, a "meander line" is used to delineate the border at which a body of water meets a land mass. In some sense, it is a boundary between the known and the unknown. In this body of work, I am depicting my own "meander lines," between external stresses, pressures, and fears and my own selfhood. The work includes imagery created from maps, sewing patterns, bathymetric charts, exercise guides, film stills, and vivid color to give the sense of mapping.
