Pirate has hosted a gathering of artistic celebration honoring Dia de los Muertos for 37 years, becoming an established metro-Denver tradition. Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a joyous occasion when the memory of ancestors and the continuity of life is celebrated. It is considered a time of cheerful celebration rather than one of mourning. This family-friendly event features Day of the Dead-inspired art and handmade altars plus Aztec dancers, piñatas, drinks, and more. There will a candlelight procession beginning at Pirate and meandering through 40 West Arts District to honor the dead.

Celebrate Pirate: Contemporary Art’s annual Day Of The Dead show in Lakewood’s 40 West Arts District. Please visit Edge Gallery, Next Gallery, Core New Art Space, Lakewood Arts, Gallery of Everything, and 40 West Arts while you are in the neighborhood.

Featured for the duration of the show are altars honoring the dead assembled by local families and schools as well as artwork by K-12 schools from both Denver and Jefferson counties.
