Charles Counter received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the seventies from Colorado State University and went on to receive a graduate degree in fine art from Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. While at Otis, he served as the graduate assistant in sculpture developing a particular interest in wood sculpture. Later, this interest broadened through an apprenticeship and full-time employment as an industrial wood pattern maker.

Returning to his native Colorado, Counter has worked exclusively in the field of exhibition design and production. In the nineties he received an appointment at the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History, where he currently serves as Senior Designer and Developer of Exhibitions at the Museum and is a Senior Adjunct Instructor in the graduate program of Museum Studies. His work has been exhibited at The Denver Botanic Gardens, the Longmont Museum, Republic Plaza/Denver, Ironton Gallery, The Pattern Shop Studio and the William Havu Gallery. Counter lives and maintains a studio in Denver.
