Trine Bumiller:100 Paintings for 100 Years
The Nalanda Gallery at Naropa University
October 19 - December 17, 2018
- Opening reception: Friday, October 19th from 6-8 pm
100 Paintings for 100 Years were the result of a residency at Rocky Mountain National Park in the summer of 2014. Ostensibly they honor the centennial year of the park, yet they also express the immersive quality of the experience and the park itself. They invoke memory as attached to a place, and that the land is deeply ingrained in our DNA and resides in our subconscious. The paintings revolve around concepts of time, translation, memory and our natural world. They reflect the landscape of the park in its many permutations: plant life, geology and bodies of water in abstract images from different perspectives, creating a deconstructed landscape portrait of a significant place. They were first exhibited at the McNichols Building, managed by of the city of Denver, in 2015. This will be the first time they will be seen in Colorado since then.
