Clark Richert in Hyperspace at the MCA Denver curated by Zoe Larkins draws a through-line connecting Richert's over 50 year artistic practice. The exhibition begins with his foundational role in the experimental community Drop City in the 1960's that combined visual art, architecture and daily living as a creative exercise. The exhibition continues with his interest in geometric dimensionality within his individual painting practice and participation as a member of the pattern oriented collective and publication Criss Cross in the 1970's followed by his turn in the 1980's and 1990's towards imagining these geometries operating within pictorial spaces. The exhibition concludes with Richert's return to geometric painting in recent years and rounds out with a concurrent exhibition at the museum titled Nth Dimension that includes younger artists influenced by Richert’s 28 year career as a professor of painting at the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design.
