This exhibit features artwork created by DAVA (Downtown Aurora Visual Arts) youth during summer programs. Artworks by guest artists Anna Kaye and Natascha Seideneck add depth to this environment themed exhibition. Our Planet opens to the public on Thursday, September 19th from 4 to 7 pm with film screenings.

Inspired by field trips and talks about water, climate change and natural ecosystems with Aurora Water and Bluff Lake Nature Center, DAVA students explored the natural environment and the urgent need to respect our planet… Middle and high school Job Training students created a totem and a mural which will then be on display at Bluff Lake Nature Center. Younger students in the Open Studio built a large paper maché ponderosa pine with a background of a forest ecosystem. They also engaged in discussions about plastic in the ocean and climate change through a ceramic arctic landscape and mixed media ocean animals.

Guest artists add content about forest fire, climate change and environmental disasters in innovative ways. Anna Kaye’s drawings and animation represent the life coming back after a forest fire through an ongoing study of burnt wood and the changing landscape. Natascha Seideneck’ s photo based artworks explore current and past changes of the landscapes causes by human activity and natural disasters.

Computer Art Lab students used moving image to reveal social and environmental concerns during a collaboration between DAVA and the Colorado Film School. The resulting short films are included in this exhibit. They tell powerful stories using different formats: digital animation, stop motion, live action film and documentary. Film screenings will take place during the opening reception and throughout the duration of the show.

All of DAVA’s exhibits are free and open to the public from 10 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday, or by appointment. For more information about the exhibits, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
