40 West Gallery
October 4 - 26, 2019
- Opening reception: Friday October 4th from 6-9pm
40 West Arts is a state-certified arts district located along, and with direct ties to, the West Colfax corridor, an avenue with a 100+ year history that stretches back as far as the 1860s when this ‘Golden Road’ was the primary route for travelers hoping to find riches in the mountains during the Gold Rush.
History is an essential component of what makes us unique and for our Roots exhibit, we ask artists to explore their personal narrative with questions like, ‘Who Am I’ and ‘Where Did I Come From’. Roots is a show all about the artist's unique interpretation of their own history and makeup, whether that includes physical places and spaces, items or objects that remind them of their childhood or a past event, people, or even abstract works that create a mood or feeling that resonates for them. Broad and varied interpretations of this concept were welcomed, the possibilities are truly limitless because we all define ourselves in such diverse ways.
40 West Arts also hopes that the works in this exhibit bring up themes around human migration, belonging, race and ethnicity, what makes a home and how we sustain ourselves on a personal and societal level.
40 West Arts District will also have all of their galleries and creative spaces, including new-to-the-district galleries Core New Art Space and Kanon Collective open to the public with new exhibitions and artwork on display. Enjoy beer and wine, light bites and tons of incredible and inspiring artwork in galleries and spaces.
