Inside/Outside/North & South is an international art project linking minority teenagers from West and East High Schools in Denver, mainstream youths from Columbine High School and Colorado Academy and students from La Paz/El Alto, Bolivia and Cholula/Puebla, Mexico. This international collaborative endeavour is headed by the Museo de las Américas in Denver. Museo de Las Americas 861 Santa Fe Drive Denver, CO 80204 303.571.4401 http://museo.org Denver, CO (July 14, 2008) - The Museo de las Américas announces its fall exhibition, Inside/Outside/North & South, opening August 21, 2008 through September 14, 2008. An opening reception is scheduled for August 21, 2008 from 6 - 9 PM. The general public is invited. Coinciding with the Democratic National Convention, Inside/Outside/North & South celebrates the conclusion of a five-month international collaboration headed by the Museo de las Américas in Denver and organized to link teenagers from Denver with students from La Paz, Bolivia and Puebla, Mexico. The project addressed the growing diversity within our communities and highlights the leadership within our youth to move towards acceptance of these cultural shifts. Through intense web-dialogues with the three countries, the teens from each site have produced art works exploring causes, changes and results surrounding stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination. Led by prominent artists from each site, the completed works will be presented in a cohesive exhibition about this timely issue. Denver Artists Gwylym Cano, (filmmaker) Gwylym moved to Colorado in 1994 and created his film company, Fool Moon Productions after graduating from Yale University. As a poet, he received the James Ryan Morris Tombstone award. Ana Maria Hernando, (visual artist) originally from Argentina, her works are made with wood and paper pieces marked by cutout areas with bright designs, drawing her inspiration from nature. Mexican Artists Marie-France Desdier, (sculpture and painting) her work explores the concepts of time, space, synchronicity, connections between people and daily life. Her projects include registries of her journeys and daily interactions, making a binnacle with photo and diary notes. Metapong, (intervention art group), (Leonardo Marz and Isaac Muñoz) create social and spatial interventions through the use of documentation of individual's interactions. They have participated in the biennial of Yucatan receiving a mention of honor. Bolivian artists Soledad Ardaya, (actress) she has participated in several movies and was a part of the group "Teatro los Andes". Mauricio Montero Cardoso, (musician) performs pieces through the duet "Entre Dos Aguas". Ivan Molina, (video artist) producer of audiovisual documents and promoter of the Theater and Visual Arts schools. Alvaro Ruilova, (comic book/plastic artist) illustrator, painter, and sketcher, with national and international awards, with the "Cuentos de Cuculis". Inside/Outside/North & South is administrated by a generous grant from the American Association of Museums (AAM) and funded by the Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA).
