Fresh from AIGA Design Ranch and South by Southwest Flatstock, Jay and Diana will trek from Chicago to exhibit “Made in the Midwest” at Ink Lounge Gallery, opening Friday June 26. Hear the artists chat about their technique at 7349 W. Alaska Drive (Belmar) from 6-7:30pm, then follow them around the corner to Ink Lounge Gallery to see an exhibit of their work. Lecture is $10 per person, $5 student, Exhibit is FREE. Register at inkloungegallery.com “Made in the Midwest: Prints by Jay Ryan and Diana Sudyka” runs through August 1, at Ink Lounge Gallery. Known for his computer-free design technique and humorous animal subjects, Jay Ryan has done work for thousands of “indie rock” bands as well as his own band Dianogah. Well known in the Gig Poster community, Jay was Vice President of the American Poster Institute from 2003-07 and is owner of The Bird Machine screenprinting shop in Skokie, Il. He has shown his prints and lectured across the United States and Europe and is featured in the recently released documentary Died Young Stayed Pretty. With a passion for all things feathered and wild, Diana Sudyka is an illustrator creating work for everything from book covers and album artwork to watercolors for her avian blog, The Tiny Aviary. Her career includes work as a master intaglio printer at Chicago’s Big Cat Press and working alongside 15th and 16th century manuscripts and archives including the John M. Wing History of Printing and Book Arts Collection at Chicago's Newberry Library. Independently Jay and Diana have created concert posters for Andrew Bird, The Flaming Lips, Jeff Tweedy, The Melvins, The Decemberists, My Morning Jacket, Modest Mouse, Pearl Jam and many more. This event is made possible through our partnership with AIGA Colorado, the professional association for design. Please visit them at aigacolorado.com. Special thanks to our sponsor Wystone’s World Tea for providing tea tasting and catering. Ink Lounge Gallery, anchoring one corner of Block 7 Arts in the Belmar Arts District, exhibits unique printmaking artists and holds screen print workshops. The gallery opened in the fall of 2007 and has been a venue for local print makers, national print artists and screen printed posters from Cuba. Two graphic designers, Stuart and Nicky Alden, opened the gallery in order to share their passion for the craft of printmaking with the community and getting their hands inky. Because doing good things for the world is a passion for the couple, they donate 50% of the proceeds from each opening exhibit to a charity in India, Tong-Len Charitable Trust, and school art programs.
