Metropolitan State University of Denver, Center for Visual Art, together with the National Collage Society (NCS), presents a juried exhibition of collage and assemblage, Greater Than The Sum: National Collage Society Annual Exhibition.
Collage was first accepted as an art form in the early 20th century and has gone through surges in popularity. Works in Greater than the Sum demonstrate an exceptional use of the medium.
The exhibition features 91 works from artists both local and from across the globe. The exhibition was juried by Janice McDonald, collage artist and director of Denver’s Spark Gallery; Marilee Salvator, Associate Professor of Art – MSU Denver; and CVA Creative Director Cecily Cullen. There were 393 entries from five different countries including the United States, Croatia, Italy, Hungary and Canada. The exhibition judge is Pavel Zoubok, owner and director, Pavel Zoubok Gallery, New York, NY and founder and director of the nonprofit arts organization, International Collage Center.
The goal of the National Collage Society is to foster the appreciation and interest in the recognized medium of collage. Collage has only been identified and defined during the twentieth century. The NCS, Inc. advances the stature of collage as a major art medium and assists in the public education through exhibits and workshops, lectures and publications. A catalogue published by NCS will be available to purchase for $10.
In the Emerging Artist Gallery is As-Sem-Blahj an exhibition of collage and assemblage work by Denver artists, many of whom are MSU Denver students. The exhibition was organized by MSU Denver student curators.
Sponsors: U.S. Bank, MSU Denver Student Affairs Board, Springhill Suites Downtown Denver Metro State, Jan and Fred Mayer Fund, Cloud Nine Catering.
