![]() Melissa Furness - Interpolation (from the press release) Plus Gallery brings together recent works by three prominent artists who are new to the gallery for the exhibition "Brave New World." While developing the facility at 2501 Larimer Street, Plus owner and director Ivar Zeile sought to bring on board three additional artists that would complement a program that not only keeps an eye on today's exciting artist's market but expands the reputation built primarily around local talent. Bill Amundson hardly needs an introduction, he is simply one of Denver's most beloved and recognized talents with a masterpiece currently on view on the 4th floor of the Hamilton Wing at the Denver Art Museum. Amundson has haunted the gallery walls prior through the paintings of Wes Magyar, a starting point for dialogue between the artist and Plus. Amundson's plunge into the gallery realm is notable to anyone familiar with his work, the support for his no-holds barred attack on society leading to increasingly more direct, engaging results. Melissa Furness is a Denver transplant from the North West United States who currently teaches art at the University of Colorado at Denver. She depicts a dizzying, surreal universe that merges new and old with a mixture of diverse media that builds to an impressive visual density. Acclaim has followed her in the short time she has been exhibiting as an artist, and "Brave New World" marks her debut in Denver. Douglas Walker is a remarkable painter from Toronto, Canada, and the gallery's first international artist in the stable. Having proven his talents over the last twenty years, Walker was first introduced to Denver during last year's "Vis-a-Visage" exhibition at Object + Thought with his abstractions of the female face. His current paintings depict a strange and surreal universe with historic motifs advanced through his sublime, singular painting techniques. Taken together, the trio of artists progress bold, finely executed, visionary artwork for today and add new dimension to Plus Gallery's program.
