Art Gym Denver shines a spotlight on contemporary printmaking trends and printmakers from across the U.S through its 2nd annual printmaking exhibition impressed 2017: Destructive Beauty.

The exhibit displays a diverse range and exceptional use of printmaking processes including: photopolymer, line etching, aquatint, mezzotint, engraving, photo lithography, plate lithography, linocut, reduction woodcut, monotype, screen print, letterpress, book arts, and laser engraving.

The selected works maintain their beauty while exploring dark themes including: death and loss, cultural identity, internment camps, human trafficking, the war on drugs and prescription drug culture, social networking, pollution and natural resources, information misdirection, the protest at Standing Rock, and illegal border crossing.

The 27 prints in the exhibit were selected by Brandon Gunn, Interim Education Director of the Tamarind Institute and Gregory Santos, Printmaking Director at Art Gym Denver.

Join printmakers Brandon Gunn and Gregory Santos for a start-to-finish demonstration of the photo plate lithography process Friday, March 31 from 6-8 pm. Watch a plate be exposed, developed, and then printed on a motorized Griffin lithography press. The demonstration will then show how to print a photo litho plate on an intaglio press! Free and open to the public.

Join us Saturday, April 1, 1-3pm, for a gallery talk focusing on the prints exhibited in Impressed 2017: Destructive Beauty. Co-jurors of the exhibit, Brandon Gunn, Interim Education Director of the Tamarind Institute and Gregory Santos, Art Gym's Printmaking Director will lead a conversation with local exhibiting artists: Sam Cikauskas, Kim Morski, and Ashley Nason. Free and open to the public. Light refreshments available.
