Urban Landscapes: a National Juried Exhibition

Core New Art Space

December 7 - 24, 2017

  • Opening reception: Friday December 8 from 6-9 pm
Emmanuelle Auzias, “City 3”

Artists have always explored the urban landscape in works depicting cityscapes, architecture, and candid city scenes. Core’s upcoming show will feature work that expresses the vibrancy of the city: The smells, the walls, the skyline, the people, and the relentless activity. Urban Landscape is juried by Frederick Pichon.

Pichon is a graduate from École des Beaux-Arts Paris, with a Masters in Architecture, Mr Pichon has worked as an architect in Paris for 15 years, including on the renovation of the Grand Palais and Musée des Invalides, andvarious contemporary buildings. From 1998 to 2002 he has worked in New-York city, doing stage architecture, including the Tigers stadium in Detroit. His personal interests in science led him to be a designer of exhibitions for the American Museum of Natural History.

In parallel, he has pursued an interest in painting, which led him to take various art classes, have a painting studio and do various group and solo exhibitions in France and in the US. After moving to Denver in 2006, he held his first solo exhibition in 2008. In 2010, he joined spark gallery, the oldest co-op in Denver and held various group exhibitions and successful personals show. Since 2012 he has given monthly lectures about art and art history at the Alliance Française in Denver.

His paintings reflect his personal interests in design, architecture, science, and history. His work can be realistic or abstract, mixing materials or collages and computer images. His artistic goal is to provide a body of work that reflects the human condition in a post-modern world where technique is both all-encompassing and a liability.
