The exhibition will run from January 25 through March 8, 2008. The opening reception will be held on Friday, January 25, 2008 from 6-9 PM. Dirk De Bruycker’s second solo exhibition at RULE Gallery will feature his acclaimed painted abstractions. Born in Belgium, the international artist splits his time between Santa Fe, NM and Nicaragua and exhibits all over the world. His paintings are bold color studies that reference the color field tradition, with an added complexity due to De Bruycker’s use of unusual mediums and layered textures. The artist begins his multilayered canvases by painting a linear structure with asphalt. When he ultimately pours, drips and paints his signature colors and cobalt drier onto the canvas, the asphalt resists the liquids, allowing the underlying structure to remain as a ghostly memory. De Bruycker’s color palette is vibrant and sophisticated, using rich crimson, purple and gold to suggest the beauty of the natural world and the play of light on surfaces. The large scale canvases allow his saturated colors to completely overtake the viewer, providing an overwhelming sensory experience while the smaller compositions are breathtaking studies in organic forms, colors and line. De Bruycker’s newest collection of paintings exhibit his ongoing mastery of color and composition and offer further evidence of his significant presence in the international art community. De Bruycker has exhibited in galleries worldwide, including Galerie S&H de Buck in Belgium, Chiaroscuro Gallery in Santa Fe, and Lemmons Contemporary in New York. He also has work in the collections of the Ministry of Visual Arts in Brussels, the Marriott Group, the Microsoft Corporation, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. In 2005, De Bruycker was honored with a prestigious solo exhibition sponsored by Caermersklooster, the Provincial Center for Art and Culture for the Belgian province of East Flanders, located in the city of Ghent. RULE Gallery is located at 227 Broadway, Denver, Colorado. The gallery is open from 12PM to 5PM, Tuesday through Saturday, or by appointment (303) 777-9473.
