Kyle MacMillan's Denver Post review of the exhibit: Juror Molds Exceptional Exhibit of Ceramicists
(from the press release)
Foothills Art Center proudly presents Colorado Clay 2008, a juried biennial exhibition showcasing the very best in contemporary ceramics by Colorado artists.
This year's juror, Richard Notkin, is a full-time studio artist living in Helena, Montana. For over 35 years, Mr. Notkin's work has been exhibited internationally and is in numerous collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. He is perhaps most well known for his series of unglazed stoneware teapots inspired by the remarkable Yixing wares of China.
Mr. Notkin selected 12 artists who will be invited to submit up to ten pieces; a number which offers a significant and compelling look into each artist's body of work.
The artists selected are: Penney Bidwell, Annie Chrietzberg, Connie Christensen, Caroline Douglas, Marie E.v.B. Gibbons, Robyn Gray, Jonathan Kaplan, Mike Keene, Jenna Perstlinger, Shane Porter, Chandler Romeo, Shelley Schreiber (shown at left)
Colorado Clay 2008 boasts a variety of techniques, surfaces and thematic approaches. This group of artists explores figurative, architectural, organic, functional, narrative and installation concerns.
