Winter Art WalkAurora's East End Arts DistrictFriday, November 16th, 2007 - 5:00 to 9:00 PMEast Colfax Avenue between Clinton and Geneva, auroragov.org/artwalk for maps and locationsI was disapointed I missed the artist talk and dedication of Lawrence Argent's Ghost Trolley in Aurora's East End back in September, and I still have yet to make my way down to check it out. Argent's public sculptures are some of the most photographed in Denver (his work "I See What You Mean" is the big blue bear peeking into the Denver Convention Center and his massive green blades of grass grace the entrance to Englewood on S. Broadway.) Well looks like I'll have my chance to see Argent's work as well as 2 other public works (Christopher Weed's "Unglued" and Bill Vielehr's "Reflective Urban Quilt") on Friday November 16th as part of the East End Arts District Winter Art Walk (press release below). - KLH Preview of Shadow Theatre Company, new public artworks to greet visitors for Winter Art Walk Discover what’s new in Aurora’s East End Arts District at the 2007 Winter Art Walk from 5 to 9 p.m. Nov. 16, including three new public art pieces and the Shadow Theatre Company’s impending arrival to the district. The art walk will feature gallery open houses exhibiting pottery, painting, jewelry, sculpture, performing and culinary arts, with some artists available on site. Also, the Shadow Theatre Company, which is relocating from Denver to Aurora with their first production opening planned for late February or early March, will be available at their soon-to-be new home at 1468 Dayton St. to greet visitors and provide a glimpse of their future through video. In addition, three newly installed public art pieces are available to view: Lawrence Argent’s illuminated “Ghost Trolley” on the Colfax Avenue median across from the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library/Municipal Services Center; Christopher Weed’s 16-foot-tall blue abstract chair “Unglued” at the pocket park on Dallas Street, just south of Colfax; and Bill Vielehr’s “Reflective Urban Quilt” at Fire Station No. 1 on East 16th Avenue, a block north of Colfax. Donna Moody Studio, featuring photography by Alta Dunst and Moody’s artworks, also has opened a gallery at 1556 Florence St., joining East End Applied Arts, Sunrise Artworks, Florence Griffith Pottery and Ad Lopez Originals at that location. Other art walk participants include Downtown Aurora Visual Arts, The Other Side Arts and Red Delicious Press. The East End Arts District, a 16-block area, is located along the historic commercial corridor from Clinton to Geneva streets on East Colfax Avenue. Free pedi-cabs will be available to provide rides to the various locations. To find out more or obtain a map of the art walk route, call 303-361-9282 or visit auroragov.org/artwalk. The East End Arts District’s 2007 Winter Art Walk is sponsored by the Community College of Aurora and Citywide Banks. |
