ARTIST STATEMENT: Lost in Translation
Through a visual vernacular of abstract paintings that correspond with ancient Spanish
Proverbs, I allow myself to get lost in translation. My memories become a private visual language, an acceptance of abstraction and an acceptance of emotional intensity. Past and present converge as I recall a particular place or thought. With a vocabulary of Expressionist handling, color, line and texture intuitively navigate their way toward definition. Images evolve from their origins of the natural world to ambiguous forms. Nature is a surface loosely imagined and reality is the effect of one's own condition, as they explore hidden meanings.
FIRST MONDAY ART TALK MANTRA
"Making art is a common and intimately human activity, filled with all the perils (and rewards) that accompany any worthwhile effort. The difficulties art makers face are not
remote and heroic, but universal and familiar." - David Bayles, Ted Orland
