First Monday Art Talk
Monday September 3rd, 2007, 7:00 PM
Dazzle Jazz
FMAT is always a treat, a great way to get out of the house, hear some music and poetry, and meet some local artists. From Eric's press release:
First Monday Art Talk (Now in it’s second year) Monday, September 3rd
will showcase the artists of CHAC (Chicano Humanities & Arts
Council). Hosted by Eric Matelski and translated by guest host Mario
Acevedo this evening’s show will give the audience a chance to meet
artists Rebecca Rozales, Veronica Herrera, and Stevon Lucero.
The audience will also get a chance to meet and view the works of
independent filmmakers Rebecca Salinas and Rosa Molina. This
evening’s events will give a special look into the El Grito de la
Independencia Fiesta, Sept. 15-16, 2007. A celebration of Mexican
independence from Spain including live music, authentic Mexican food,
a variety of arts and crafts exhibitors, children’s attractions and
colorful cultural costumes.
The Fun Begins at 7p.m. with:
MUSIC BY: ÁKE from the SNAKE PIT, POETRY BY, Héktor Muñoz and Stevon
Lucero, and a opportunity to ask the artist questions. As usual a
light menu will be provided by: DAZZLE.
FIRST MONDAY ART TALK was created as part of a national promotion
started by AMERICA IS A GREAT ART PLACE MEDIA SUITE called Meet an
Artist.
FMAT (FIRST MONDAY ART TALK) is FREE to the public and will provide a
look into the life of an artist or art group each month through a
unique reproduction of their influences.
The evening’s events will be
followed by a Q & A with the audience, mediated by host ERIC MATELSKI
The Chicano Humanities & Arts Council (CHAC) was founded
in 1978 by a group of visual and performing artists. The organization
was established as a place where Chicano/Latino artists were provided
with a venue to explore visual and performance art and promote and
preserve the Chicano/Latino culture through the expression of the arts.
Our Activities: the gallery generally offers two shows each month by
local visual art exhibits and performances by area musicians, actors,
dancers, writers and poets. Popular annual events include the Members
Season Opener in January, Santos & Crosses in August, El Dia De Los
Muertos in November and our Luminarias de la Guadalupe & Christmas
Mercado in December.

CHAC works with teachers in Denver public schools
to provide gallery space for cultural art projects and provides
informative guided tours of our major events such as 'El Dia de Los
Muertos' for school or Senior groups. In addition we collaborate with
many community groups and non-profits to provide gallery space, and
share programming and resources. Our popular “Children's outreach
programs provide schools and organizations with an artist that will
provide a cultural art project, or a cultural storytelling event
performance of pure artistic expression
FIRST MONDAY ART TALK MISSION
To break the barrier between artists and the general public.
“Making art is a common and intimately human activity, filled with
all the perils (and rewards) that accompany any worthwhile effort.
The difficulties art makers face are not remote and heroic, but
universal and familiar.” – David Bayles, Ted Orland
