Artists on the Mile-High Map: A Tour of Denver's Art Scene with Katharine Smith-Warren
University College at the University of Denver
Three field trips: Saturdays October 11, 18, 25, 2008 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm
(from the DU University College Website)
Denver’s art scene has expanded exponentially in the past decade, including many new areas where artists, studios and galleries have transformed neighborhoods. A follow up to last spring’s popular course, this Part II tour takes you to the galleries, studios and exhibition spaces missed last time. Meet more of the artists and gallerists who are creating and exhibiting some of Colorado’s most innovative, exciting and cutting-edge art.
Once again, your guide is artist, independent curator and critic, Katharine Smith-Warren, who has spent her career in Denver and New York tracking down the best new artists for major corporations and collectors. Go behind the scenes to see where artists live and work, and learn how artist-run cooperative galleries differ from commercial art venues. Meet the people at the forefront of the various trends, scenes and genres. Get ready for adventure as you visit spaces off the beaten track, view the newest artwork and meet some of the most interesting and creative people making or exhibiting art in Denver today. Come away with a better understanding of how and where artists work and exhibit, and how to find interesting, affordable, quality art in Denver. Note: Maps and information with locations will be provided before the first tour.
