Deborah Oropallo LectureRobischon GalleryThursday October 4th, 2007Reception for the artist from 6:00 to 7:30Informal gallery talk from 6:30 to 7:00 Deborah Oropallo's subjects sinfully ooze out from the staid captivity of their classical subject matter. The large tapestry "George" merges Washington with a bikini clad, riding crop carrying seductress on black platform boots. While there certainly are initial grins, the density of Oropallo's imagery and complexity of her subjects' multiple personalities soon takes over and pulls the viewer into a dialog on the relationship between women and historical male-dominated imagery of power and prestige. The gallery talk with Oropallo this Thursday coincides with the Three Concurrent Solo Exhibitions show now on display at Robischon and is co-sponsored with the MCA Denver; a portion of any sales during the event will go to the MCA's capital campaign for the new David Adjaye designed building. Following the Oropallo talk will be an advance screening of an episode from the PBS series Art21, now in it's 4th season. Deborah Oropallo tapestry "George" |
