The word fantastical means imaginative or fanciful, otherworldly or beyond ‘normal’ reality. Fantastical works can stem from a wide variety of subjects and ideas. Fantastical is something that evolves from an unrestricted imagination. How can an art piece showcase this idea? Perhaps something that is realistic, but so incredibly great or extreme, it makes the viewer ponder the whimsy, scale or richness in detail. Or maybe it is something so highly unrealistic and impractical that a viewer might wonder and question reality? Perhaps the work is based in mythology or science fiction, or maybe the piece is strange and fanciful in form, conception or appearance. Even the process of an artist conceiving and manifesting a fantastical idea can be artwork in itself! How do you interpret an unrestricted imagination?
This is an inclusive exhibition, meaning that we strive to accommodate at least one work from all artists. However, submissions will be screened by a panel, including 40 West Arts curators and invited guest jurors, to ensure quality and applicability of work. Please note that depending on the number of submissions, our curation process, and other factors, not all submitted works are guaranteed entrance into our show. We will notify you within the time frame indicated herein regarding the acceptance of your work(s).
